Workshop II: Group-based Behavioral Activation with Mindfulness (BAM)

Abstract:

Behavioral activation with mindfulness (BAM) is a cost-effective approach for addressing subthreshold depression and preventing the development of major depressive disorder.

This workshop aims to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills to apply group-based Behavioral Activation with Mindfulness (BAM) to enhance the wellbeing of individuals experiencing subthreshold depression. Participants will gain an understanding of key concepts, essential components, and the overall structure of BAM.

The workshop will also provide an opportunity to share experiences related to implementing BAM in elderly service settings. Speakers will discuss the research background, practical strategies, interventions and the challenges encountered in these contexts.

Participants will have the chance to learn practical skills in BAM, empowering them to integrate BAM into their practice.

Workshop IV: Service Delivery Models for Management of Chronic Pain in the Community

Abstract:

Evidence shows that multimodal rehabilitation has positive outcomes for persons with chronic pain, which requires collaborative teamwork. This is typically seen in pain clinics in tertiary settings, where pharmacist, doctor, therapists, psychologists and others, work together with the clients towards common goals, using similar terminology. However, many clients with chronic pain cannot access these specialist pain clinics but will look for community level solutions. While primary health care is increasingly offering multidisciplinary services, it is unclear whether they are moving towards a collaborative approach for chronic pain or continue to work in professional silos.

This workshop will raise the challenges and potential solutions for efficient service delivery using a collaborative team approach. Speakers from Hong Kong and overseas will share their practice focusing on the management elements. In addition, participants and speakers will debate a case scenario developed from client experiences, aiming to highlight our personal awareness of the significance of enhancing service delivery.
